This double degree will provide you with thorough knowledge of environmental science and business management principles and practices. Environmental scientists, particularly those working in consulting firms, benefit from a sound knowledge of management principles to help them implement environmental policy in the business environment. The program offers: considerable hands-on experience with equipment both in the laboratory and in the field; the opportunity to specialise with a minor in environmental biology or environmental chemistry; field trips as an integral part of the learning process; the opportunity to work on collaborative projects with industry, generally in small teams; and a sound understanding of the principles of business management. As a double degree student, you will gain further skills and knowledge that may extend your career opportunities into future management positions.

Entry Requirements:

Current Year 12 prerequisites units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 20 in Mathematics (any); and a study score of at least 25 in any English (except EAL) or at least 30 in English (EAL).


You will study the same core environmental science and business management courses included in the single degree. You can also choose to specialise with a minor in environmental biology or environmental chemistry. Environmental biology covers topics including ecology, plant science and bioremediation relevant to agriculture, horticulture and the natural environment. Environmental chemistry focuses on chemical interactions occurring in the environment and provides the skills and knowledge needed to analyse chemical pollutants in the air, soil, water and biota using a range of techniques and instrumentation. The business courses in later years of the program provide an understanding of business management skills and knowledge to lead teams and projects.

Study Pathways:

Graduates of the RMIT Diploma of Business Administration with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 may be eligible to apply for credit if successful in gaining a place. Graduates of the RMIT Diploma of Conservation and Land Management may be eligible to apply for credit of up to 1 year.

Graduates find work in diverse settings including environmental consultancies, analytical services for site assessment and remediation, recycling and treatment companies and forestry, mining and service industries. Private companies have to be responsible for their environmental processes and employ professionals with business skills to manage their performance.


All graduates will be eligible for membership of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. The program is accredited by the Australian Institute of Management.
