Combine studies in electrical and electronic engineering with international business to become an engineering manager capable of managing business complexity in an international context. You'll work on projects in the design, development, production, maintenance and operation of all things to do with electricity. You'll develop the skills to design and develop electrical systems for the generation, distribution and control of electric power, as well as electronic systems used for computing, communications, industry and entertainment. At RMIT, you'll learn how to put theory into practice to solve problems by making useful products and provide quality services, via laboratory and project-based learning. The international business component will develop your capabilities to identify the impact of international business on economies and businesses, and analyse and interpret the complex nature of global organisations and international business relationships.

Structure

Years 1 to 3 You'll learn the fundamentals of electrical and electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, and international business tailored for electrical and electronic engineers. Years 4 and 5 You'll specialise in electrical and electronic engineering, and international business. Compulsory courses in engineering will start with a group engineering design project and research methods for engineers, leading to a major individual engineering design project in the final year. This will relate closely to industry to demonstrate high levels of technical competence and organisational skills as well as to exercise enterprise skills. A wide range of technical electives will be available in electrical and electronic engineering that will deepen your technical knowledge, enrich your skill set and develop your engineering and professional capabilities. You have the option of specialising in one area or picking electives from several areas for a more generalist program.

Standard entry requirements

  • Current Year 12 prerequisite units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 20 in one of Mathematical Methods (any) or Specialist Mathematics
  • And a study score of at least 25 in any English (except EAL) or at least 30 in English (EAL).

Recognition

This program will apply for full accreditation by Engineers Australia as soon as possible within the accreditation timelines set down by Engineers Australia. Upon accreditation being granted, graduates of the program will be eligible for graduate membership of Engineers Australia. Full membership as a professional engineer may be obtained after an appropriate period of professional practice. Australia is one of 15 countries that are signatories to the International Engineering Alliance, also known as the Washington Accord, for professional engineers. Upon full accreditation of this program, graduates will have their qualification recognised in all 18 countries that are signatories to the Accord, allowing you the possibility to work in countries including the USA, UK, China, New Zealand, Japan, Korea and Singapore.
