This course provides a studio learning environment for the development of digital media design specialists in interactive media, digital video, digital sound and digital environments. Students focus on the core disciplines of the field including visual effects and compositing, motion graphics, interactive design, web and mobile media design, sound design, virtual and augmented reality design, digital installation design and digital media theory. Students gain a solid grounding in contemporary digital media design theory through practice and explore how digital content is planned, produced, applied and integrated. Students undertake industry internships in their final semester and have the opportunity for study abroad.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12; VCE Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in any other English


You will be introduced to a range of digital media fields and then specialise in either Interactive, Digital Video, Sound or Digital Environments. Year 1-Learn about digital media via a comprehensive overview of its theory and practice. You will learn the foundations of graphic and digital media design. You'll also develop strategies to enable an understanding of digital media platforms, which will provide a navigation point used in later years of specialisation. Year 2-You will study advanced theories, ideas and concepts of digital media design while starting to gain advanced skills in your chosen area of specialisation. The focus will be on studio practice. Year 3-You will complement your growing skills and knowledge with a focus on industry by way of specialisation in your chosen field with an emphasis of individual, collaborative and conceptual development.

Study Pathways:

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Design (Digital Media) you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University including Honours, or Master by coursework in the School of Media and Communication subject to each program's entry requirements. Students who have successfully completed the C6151IM Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Interactive Plan) are eligible to apply for entry into the second year of the BP309 Bachelor of Design (Digital Media).

You will undertake an internship or studio project in the final semester that will allow you to demonstrate a professional and real-world approach to what you have learned over the previous years of study. The type of careers this qualification leads to may include web and interactive design, user experience design, app and mobile design, visual effects, motion graphics, sound design, digital production, virtual environment design, digital installation design, projection design.
