The Bachelor of Education (Secondary Education) degree is designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of 21st century learners. Most subjects in this degree will be offered fully online, in order to provide more flexible access. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional practice in schools, culminating in a final professional placement of 10 continuous weeks. The Bachelor of Education (Secondary Education) will be chosen by those who wish to teach in Secondary schools in Years 7 - 12. Students in this degree will specialise in one Secondary school curriculum area and will be qualified to teach Years 7 to 12 in this major teaching area. The curriculum areas offered in the Bachelor of Education (Secondary Education) are: The Arts -Visual Arts, English and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). Please Note: Applicants for admission will be required to elect a major teaching area from those offered via OUA. These are: The Arts – Visual Arts, English and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS).

Standard entry requirements

Successful study through OUA – either: Successful completion of two of the four OUA open enrolment units: EDC151, EDC101, EDC155, and EDS101 and separate evidence of English proficiency is required OR Successful completion of four units (EDC151, EDC101, EDC155 and EDS101) at pass level. (This satisfies the English language proficiency requirement.) Higher Education: Successful completion of one full time semester (four standard units) towards an Undergraduate or higher level of study at an Australian University (separate evidence of English competence is not required). Secondary Education: Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) 70 or equivalent. English ATAR, Literature ATAR or English as an Additional Language/Dialect ATAR. Desirable WACE course: At least Mathematics Applications ATAR.
