This course provides students with German language skills and knowledge of a level suitable for work in businesses with international trade links and in organisations or agencies providing services to CALD Australians. Students will gain advanced level LOTE skills and a general understanding of the LOTE country society and its public institutions. They will also learn about using LOTE skills responsibly and effectively as part of their work, as well as how to work with interpreters.

13 units: 10 core; 1 compulsory elective; 2 electives

Core: Discuss and present information on how the LOTE country is governed (German); Discuss and present information on health in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on education and training in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on how law and order is maintained in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on the Arts in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on work/employment related matters in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on tourism in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on international trade in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on current affairs/media in the LOTE country (German); Discuss and present information on environmental issues in the LOTE country (German). Compulsory elective: Differentiate between the work of bilinguals and that of interpreters and translators. Plus electives.
