Certificate IV in Programming

This qualification is part of the Information and Communications Technology Training Package. It provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to develop basic programming skills in the most commonly used programming languages. An individual with this qualification could work as an assistant programmer in a team of software developers, or as a support programmer to senior programmers or systems analysts.

Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology or relevant vocational experience.


18 units: 10 core; 8 electives

Core: Contribute to copyright, ethics and privacy in an ICT environment; Apply query language; Develop data-driven applications; Test applications; Automate processes; Apply introductory object-oriented language skills; plus more. Elective: Participate effectively in WHS communication and consultation processes; Create basic databases; Write script for software applications; plus more.

Study Pathways:

This course lead to Diploma of Software Development or Diploma of Information Technology.

Applicants must possess Australian Core Skills Framework levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication, and numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. Students who do not possess these skills to the level required will be enrolled in additional subjects to build the required skills. Students entering as an apprentice or trainee must be employed in the relevant industry prior to enrolment.
