When you graduate from this course, you will be able to design, engineer, operate, and troubleshoot both broad spectrum and specialised water treatment and management processes to improve water quality in Australia and overseas. You will meet the needs of the water industry with specialty skills in understanding, designing operating, monitoring and planning water treatment infrastructure and processes. In the course, you will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of water engineering and then apply this theory with practical learning experiences to give you the skills needed to use the algorithms, hardware and software, and latest practices of the water purification industry. The Master of Engineering: Water Treatment and Desalination will prepare you for employment in the companies and agencies in which water is the primary business, such as water utilities. Many other industries also employ water engineers to manage their water processes. These include mining, horticulture, energy generation, oil and gas recovery, livestock and agriculture production and processing, semi-conductor and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and hospitals and health care facilities. This course is designed to satisfy requirements of Engineers Australia for Continuing Professional Education of Engineers in the disciplines of environmental engineering, water engineering, and chemical engineering in the areas of water process control, technology, and management. You will also have the option to complete your studies early and be awarded with a Graduate Diploma in Water Treatment and Desalination after one year of study.

Standard entry requirements

Recognised Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7) in a relevant area. Normally applicants will also possess an appropriate level of industrial experience. Applicants without the necessary qualifications and/or background will be required to study additional units as part of the course requirements. The preferred format to provide these details is by a Curriculum Vitae and a personal statement of no more than 300 words detailing why this course has been selected.
