This course provides professional education for those wishing to become economic or econometric professionals. It has a strong emphasis on developing analytical skills and offers a solid grounding and professional competence in aspects of commerce required for careers in the corporate sector, government and the professions. The course will enable students to build a high level of expertise in one of the following specialisations: Applied econometrics; Applied economics and econometrics; and Business economics. The course allows students to focus their studies from the start, blending a conceptual theoretical framework with practical applications and basic discipline material through to more specialised discipline requirements.

Structure

The course comprises 96 points and is structured in three parts. Part A. Advanced preparatory (24 points), Part B. Mastery knowledge (48 points) and Part C. Application studies (24 points). All students complete Part B. Depending on prior qualifications, students may receive credit for Part A or Part C or a combination of the two.

Standard entry requirements

An Australian bachelor degree or an equivalent qualification, and with a preferred Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65 or an equivalent GPA as determined by the Faculty. Applicant must also meet the English language requirements and will be ranked and selected based on their entire academic record. If students wish to complete the Applied Econometrics or Applied Economics and Econometrics stream they must have achieved a result of at least 70 (or equivalent) in a first year undergraduate statistics course.

Research pathway option is available to those interested in pursuing a PhD. Students considering a research degree are advised to consult student services prior to making an application. Students may exit this course early and apply to graduate with the Graduate Certificate of Business or the Graduate Diploma of Business, provided they have satisifed the requirements for that award during their enrolment in this master's course.
