Mechanical engineers analyse, conceptualise, design and manufacture items from the very small (such as micro machines) to the very large (such as aircraft). Mechanical engineers are central to the production of almost every item that we use. This major focuses on micro-mechanical devices. The course provides opportunity to interact with academics in a variety of ground-breaking areas from life sciences to nanofabrication and it has a focus on industry experience. Students will have opportunities to take advantage of Macquarie's strong industry partnerships with major companies such as BAE Systems, Cochlear, Optus and Honeywell.

Structure

  • 96 credit points
  • minimum 60 credit points at 200 level or above
  • minimum 30 credit points at 300 level or above
  • minimum 87 credit points designated as engineering.

Subjects

  • basic sciences, statics, dynamics, mechanics of solids, thermofluids and materials. It offers advanced options in manufacturing, novel materials, and micro-scale devices

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Required: Mathematics (band 4). Recommended: HSC Mathematics Extension 1 or HSC Mathematics Extension 2, plus Physics.
