Actuaries analyse and manage the risks associated with finance. By studying actuarial studies with either mathematics or statistics students will gain a competitive set of specialist skills. In this degree students can major in both actuarial studies and science. The combination will give students a deeper understanding of the financial, mathematical, statistical and economic analysis needed in long term financial management.

Standard entry requirements

  • Required: Mathematics extension 1 band E4
  • Recommended: Mathematics Extension 1 and Extension 2 with an overall mark of 180

Recognition

The actuarial degree is accredited by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust). This means that if students complete the three-year degree with grades of credit or above in the relevant units in the program, they are granted exemption from Part 1 of the IAAust's professional exams. If they complete a four-year double degree involving actuarial studies with grades of credit or above in the relevant units, they are granted exemption from Parts 1 and 2 of the IAAust's professional exams.

Further information

Students interested in work based on the application of mathematical, statistical, economic and financial analysis to a wide range of practical problems in long-term financial planning and management. This course is available in internal attendance mode in Session 1 only.
