This practically orientated course provides training in family therapy with a focus on supervision of family work and integrating family therapy theory. It's ideal for psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, youth workers, drug and alcohol counsellors, psychiatric nurses or workers from other professions who are suitably qualified and want to focus strictly on family therapy counselling. It offers a solid grounding in systems theory and substantial experiential work, including supervised clinical practice in a family therapy context in teams of no more than six students in year 2 and 3. Family therapy focuses on the important role of the family and the power of relationships to foster social, emotional and mental wellbeing. This course is delivered in partnership with The Bouverie Centre in Brunswick. To qualify for the award of Master of Clinical Family Therapy, students must complete 180 credit points consisting of: 180 core credit-points

Standard entry requirements
- Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Year 1 entry
- Australian bachelor's degree or equivalent in a counselling, health, community or welfare field. Year 2 entry
- Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and Graduate Certificate of Family Therapy or equivalent. If considering membership of a professional body in the future, please confirm with the applicable professional body that any subject for which credit is sought will be accepted before proceeding.
- Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Undergraduate requirements - Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).

Recognition
The Master of Clinical Family Therapy offered at the Brunswick (Bouverie) campus is accredited by the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT). Graduates of the Master of Clinical Family Therapy offered at the Brunswick (Bouverie) campus, who meet the training requirements set out by AAFT, may be eligible to apply for Clinical Family Therapist membership with the AAFT. Please note that because The Bouverie Centre will be changing its university affiliation in the near future we will not be taking enrolments for 2017 for our Level 1 entry into the Master of Clinical Family Therapy. Students who enrol in the Graduate Certificate will cover the same material and may be then eligible to apply for second year entry into the Masters Program in 2018.
