This course is ideal if you would like to enhance your skills in dealing professionally with families - in education, nursing, welfare, family support, child protection, disability, drugs and alcohol, residential care and mental health. You'll be encouraged to relate theory and practice to your own work settings. We offer a basic grounding in family therapy theory as well as experiential work in small groups. Graduates may be eligible to progress to the Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy level within the Master of Clinical Family Therapy. This course is delivered in partnership with The Bouverie Centre in Brunswick. Structure

To attain the Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy, students will be required to complete 60 credit points in total consisting of: 60 core credit-points

  • First Year Subjects: Academic Integrity Module
  • Contemporary Applications of Family and Systemic Practice
  • Foundations of Family and Systemic Practice

Standard entry requirements

  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Specialisation (recommended): Counselling, health or welfare.
  • Postgraduate: Prerequisites - Undergraduate requirements - Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).

Recognition

The Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy offered at the Brunswick (Bouverie) campus is accredited by the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT). Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy offered at the Brunswick (Bouverie) campus may apply for General membership with the AAFT. Further information

There are three streams available. One is primarily online, the second is delivered face-to-face at The Bouverie Centre, Brunswick, and the third stream is offered as a site-based delivery model. This site based stream can only be offered to organisations who wish to enroll and fund a minimum cohort of 10 students. It cannot be offered to individual private students.
