This program will give students insights into crime and the criminal justice system. In the psychological science component, they will develop an understanding of human behaviour and the variables that affect it, which will help them understand how people can get caught up in the criminal justice system. In the criminology and criminal justice component, they will study crime trends and learn how crime can be analysed and prevented. Students will have the option to complete a professional practice placement one day a week in their final year to gain experience in a justice-related workplace.

Graduates may undertake a further year of study (honours or postgraduate) in psychology which will make them eligible for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society and general registration, with probationary conditions, as a psychologist in Queensland. Full registration requires a further two years of approved postgraduate study or supervised on-the-job training with a registered psychologist. Criminology graduates may be eligible to join The Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology.
