This degree aims to equip its graduates to meet the entry level competency standards for registration as a Physiotherapist. Students will learn to become evidence-based, contemporary practitioners in a range of clinical settings and with clients of all ages.Graduates of the course will have strong interdisciplinary practice skills, including client-centred practice, teamwork and leadership.

Structure

Students complete fourteen core (compulsory) topics aimed at providing students the knowledge and skills from the core areas of physiotherapy practice to meet the entry level competency standards specified by the Australian professional accrediting body, Australian Physiotherapy Council. The degree involves clinical placements to facilitate integration of theory into practice. Students are exposed to conditions and clients with problems of increasing complexity as they progress through the degree.Students will undertake professional experience placement as part of the course. Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification and have achieved a Flinders equivalent grade point average (GPA) of credit (5.00) or above to be considered.Applicants who did not achieve the minimum GPA in their completed bachelor degree or equivalent qualification, can be considered on the basis of a second bachelor degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma or Masters degree of their choice, provided they have completed a minimum one semester full-time equivalent study in one of these courses and the Flinders equivalent GPA is 5.00 or above in this study.Applicants must have also either completed the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Therapy Studies major) at Flinders University OR have completed:the equivalent of 9 Flinders units (0.25 years FTE) of human physiology, including detailed exercise physiology
  • Andthe equivalent of 9 Flinders units (0.25 years FTE) of anatomy, including detailed musculoskeletal and neurological anatomy
  • Andthe equivalent of 4.5 Flinders units (0.125 years FTE) of study focused on an understanding of the human and social environment and social perspectives in health such as psychology and sociology
  • Andthe equivalent of 4.5 Flinders units (0.125 years FTE) study of research methods.Selection is based on academic merit.Applicants will be required to provide a self-assessment form within 10 working days of submitting their application. Recognition

Students enrolled in this course must be registered as a student with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PBA) under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2010. Flinders University arranges student registration by passing on student details directly to the PBA and no fees apply. Students are required to make declarations about their medical fitness, criminal convictions and any previous registration history which may impact their ability for student registration. Student registration is required for the duration of study in the course and if registration is suspended students will not be permitted to undertake the clinical training or professional experience placements required to complete the course.
