This degree aims to enhance the competencies of middle level health and aged care managers, equipping them to move to more senior management positions. It is designed to allow students to investigate advanced issues in management through a combination of classroom/online learning with peers and supervised industry-based project/research work.

Structure

Students complete nine core (compulsory) topics, including a management project topic, and two option topics chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students with the opportunity to use critical analysis and available evidence to address problems and opportunities in health and aged care policy and practice and to negotiate ethical and practice dilemmas and apply their skills and knowledge to achieving better outcomes for communities, clients and staff.Please note only Year 1 topics of this course will be available at this location in 2024. If you have been granted credit transfer or wish to apply for credit transfer for this course on the basis of previous study and you are granted credit, this may mean you will not be able to enrol in Year 2 or higher year topics at this location, nor able to enrol on a full-time basis until 2025.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification and have a minimum of two years' full-time equivalent post-degree work experience in the health or aged care sector
  • Or hold either the Graduate Certificate or the Graduate Diploma in Health Administration from Flinders University or equivalent qualification and have a minimum of two years' full-time equivalent professional work experience in the health or aged care sector by the commencement date of the course.Applicants must provide details of their work experience in the health or aged care sector in their SATAC application.

Recognition

This degree is accredited by the Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM).

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
