Civil engineers develop and maintain a wide variety of physical infrastructure such as bridges, buildings, airports, roads, railways, ports, mine sites, water and wastewater supply, treatment and reuse systems. They also help to maintain sustainable natural environments.This degree is designed to provide significant and substantial advanced knowledge of and skills in the field of Civil Engineering, obtained through a combination of coursework and research study.

  • Students complete fifteen core (compulsory) topics
  • either a research project or a thesis
  • and option topics chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students the foundations that will underpin ongoing professional development, particularly in research and development
  • preparing them for further study or for a career in civil engineering.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a related area of engineering
  • Or hold the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science (Civil) from Flinders University
  • Or have completed a minimum of one year full-time equivalent in the Master of Engineering Science (Civil) or equivalent qualification.Applicants without such a qualification should apply for the Master of Engineering Science (Civil) (2CM238).Due to limited Commonwealth supported places available, selection is based on academic merit.

Recognition

This degree is accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of professional engineer.
