This degree is intended for practicing language teachers (including ethnic school teachers), language education coordinators and others who are interested in furthering their education in the field of languages education.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must normally hold an approved bachelor degree or equivalent qualification and must either (a) have completed a minor sequence of four topics in any foreign language (including TESOL) in first and second/third year level over a minimum of two years' of full-time equivalent higher education study or (b) have one years' full-time equivalent teaching experience in any foreign language in a school or approved institution. Applicants should provide details of non-award and/or cross-institutional study a second language in their application.


This is a 72-unit program where students complete seven core (compulsory) topics and nine option topics chosen from a range of option topics available and aimed at providing students with the opportunity to critically examine recent literature, engage in debate and reflection, and expand and apply in-depth knowledge of policies and practices in curriculum, pedagogy and assessment with a focus in language education.

Applicants who hold an approved bachelor degree or equivalent in Education or related discipline; or hold an approved degree in any discipline and also hold the Graduate Certificate in Education from Flinders University or equivalent qualification should apply for the Master of Education (Languages Education) (1.5 years) (2CM223).
