Psychology is the systematic study of behaviour: how we learn, think, feel, act and relate to others. This degree is intended for applicants who have the goal of becoming professional psychologists in areas such as clinical, educational, health, organisational, academic and forensic settings. This degree provides a thorough grounding in the factors influencing human behaviour and experience, and how this knowledge is applied to real-world issues. The degree also teaches practical skills such as counselling and research.

the first year introduces students to a range of study areas such as social psychology, child development, physiology, personality, intelligence, and psychological problems. Second year builds on this foundation. In their third year, students learn interviewing and counselling skills and do a placement in an applied or research setting. In addition, students select from psychology option topics that address areas such as forensic psychology, clinical psychology and neuropsychology, sleep disorders, body image, social justice and emotions. In their fourth year, students have first-hand experience at designing and conducting a study under the guidance of their supervisor.

The course is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. In addition, to register to practice in South Australia, following completion of the degree, students must complete either two years of supervised experience or an approved postgraduate qualification such as the Master of Psychology. Full membership of the Australian Psychology Society requires an Honours degree in psychology and an accredited postgraduate qualification.
