Environmental health is concerned with the effects of environmental factors on the health and well-being of people, including indoor and outdoor air quality, waste management, water quality for consumption and recreation, stormwater management and water reuse, contaminated land, infectious disease and food quality and hygiene. The degree aims to make students conversant in the many disciplines that make up environmental and public health and aware of the importance of the integration of these disciplines in achieving effective solutions. It also aims to encourage students to promote an understanding within the community of environmental health and the role of their profession, and to be committed to ongoing lifelong learning. The Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health Practice is a nationally accredited and internationally recognised qualification and is designed to provide an entry-level qualification to practice as a gazetted Environmental Health Officer (EHO).

Structure

Students will complete the Life Sciences major of the Bachelor of Health Sciences which includes topics in psychosocial and biophysical sciences with a health emphasis as well as pursuing a major in a specialist area. Students who achieve a GPA of 5 or above in these studies progress to the Graduate Diploma component of this double degree and complete topics in human systems, legislation, policy, management and administration into an environmental health context.

Recognition

This degree is accredited by Environmental Health Australia. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to practise as an environmental health officer in Australia and some other countries.
