Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education - Rehabilitation Counselling

This Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education (Rehabilitation Counselling) aims to equip students with specific work-integrated knowledge and skills that can be applied in a range of disability and related health and human services environments. The course prepares students for employment as disability and developmental educators, and community rehabilitation professionals. It promotes the philosophy that persons with disabilities should be fully included in community life.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent qualifications; mature age entry (STAT); TAFE/VET qualifications; higher education transfers; or completion of a foundation studies program


The course has a multi-disciplinary focus, with contributions from psychology, philosophy, speech pathology, sociology, health, rehabilitation, leisure and special education. Theory and practice are closely integrated throughout the course enabling graduates to be effective practitioners in the field. Consequently, graduates are required to successfully complete a minimum of four supervised practicum placements throughout the degree. In addition to core topics in the first three years, in the fourth year students will complete specified rehabilitation counselling topics and two practicum placements in a rehabilitation counselling setting.

Graduates of the are eligible for full membership of the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors and/or the Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia. The degree also offers you eligibility for membership with the Developmental Educators Australia Inc.
