This pathway is for applicants who have completed Year 12 (or equivalent) and who do not have a record of study at higher education level. Domestic applicants must sit the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admissions Test (UMAT) and their final ranking is determined by combining scores for the test and Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), or equivalent. The Bachelor of Clinical Sciences enables students to enter the university's Doctor or Medicine without having to complete a separate undergraduate degree first. Through this pathway, students can complete a Bachelor of Clinical Sciences combined with the Doctor of Medicine in six years.The double degree prepares graduates to take up roles as paid hospital interns, after which they are qualified for medical registration in Australia, with the potential to follow a full range of medical specialities in their subsequent training.

In the first 2 years, students will undertake studies in Clinical Sciences with either a Medical Science or Health Sciences focus. In the third year (year 1 of the MD component) students follow four broad themes - Doctor and Patient, Knowledge of Health and Illness, Health Professions and Society and Advanced Studies. There is a strong focus on small group collaborative learning in active classes and hands-on clinical skills. Patient contact begins in week 1 and throughout the four years, students work in groups with TBL facilitators, a clinical tutor or at the bedside with clinicians.Towards the end of second year (year 4 of the double degree), there is a period of intensive clinical skills to prepare students for direct involvement in patient care in the following years. In the final two years, students mainly work alongside practising clinicians as apprentice doctors within the Flinders Medical Centre and/or its associated teaching sites.

Study Pathways:

In the first two years of the program of study, all students must pass all topics and gain a Grade Point Average of 5 (Credit) or above, in order to be eligible to progress to the MD component.
