Bachelor of Arts conditional entry to Master of Teaching (Secondary)

This pathway provides students with flexibility, choice and guaranteed entry to the two year Master of Teaching (Secondary) following successful completion (to a required standard) of the three year Bachelor of Arts. On entry to this pathway students receive academic counselling to ensure they will complete the requisite topics in the Bachelor of Arts to successfully transition to the Master of Teaching (Secondary). Note: if students start the pathway midyear, it will take them at least five and a half years to complete the Master of Teaching as it does not offer midyear entry. Flinders also offers a five year double degree for high achieving students (refer to the Bachelor of Arts/Master of Teaching (Secondary): five year double degree (SATAC code 234761)). This double degree enables students to study Education topics in all five years of the double degree, together with Bachelor of Arts topics in the first three years. On completion of the Master of Teaching qualification, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Teachers Board of South Australia

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent qualification; or mature age entry (STAT); or TAFE/VET qualification; or higher education transfers; or completion of a foundation studies program. Applicants must complete a non-academic assessment task as part of their application to demonstrate their motivation to teach, their strong interpersonal and communication skills, willingness to learn, resilience, self-efficacy, and strong organisational and planning skills.

Structure:

This double degree allows pre-service teachers to pursue a teaching specialisation in more depth and deepen their understanding in topics and issues of personal interest. Graduates will be qualified to teach in at least two different school curriculum areas at secondary school level. The school curriculum subjects that are offered are: English, Drama, Visual Art, Health Education, Information Technology, Junior Science, Biology, Earth Science, Mathematics, Languages other than English, Geography, History, Legal Studies, Society and Culture, Psychology and Business Education.

Recognition:

The Master of Teaching qualification will enable you to apply for registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. You are advised to check registration requirements as they are subject to change. Graduates looking for employment in other parts of Australia and overseas may be required to meet additional conditions.
