Our degree in Communication Design offers: A collaborative multidisciplinary foundation year that reflects real world practice; Flexible delivery which includes online and face-to-face workshop intensives; Opportunities to specialise in either Communication Design or Digital Media; Internship and industry placement opportunities; Work integrated learning design studio to learn the tools of the trade. In your first year, you will learn key skills across core creative practices to maximise your capacity to thrive in today's diverse creative industry. Explore who you are and how you express yourself as a creative practitioner. Build your skills through practical multidisciplinary studio based workshops of experimentation and self-discovery in collaboration with students from performing and visual arts. The second and third years of this program offer a blended mode of learning, which includes online and face-to-face workshop intensives. Whether working individually or collaboratively in our creative studio environment or online, you will acquire the skills to be an innovative and adaptable designer. Internships and professional studio based opportunities also offer you real-life experience throughout the second and third years of the program. Grounded through multi-disciplinary and design studio practice, you will have the opportunity to specialise in one of two design pathways. Communication Design: Push your creative limits and explore the world's problems through your design thinking and artistic skills. Immerse yourself in the design process through this specialisation, and communicate your innovative ideas via visual media. Digital Media: If you are a people person, explore the practice of designing experiences for others. This field of design requires you to understand the consumer experience, and translate it into an interactive digital solution. Get on board this fast-growing industry. Our lecturers have close ties to the design industry, and are in tune with current trends. You will meet experienced designers who will link you to current design practice and business trends.

Standard entry requirements

  • Selection is based on successful interview and folio presentation as well as completing a year 12 qualification (VCE/interstate or overseas equivalent), as well as meeting the prerequisite study requirements. Year 12 - Prerequisites Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any English
  • ATAR. Non Year 12 - Previous higher education studies with results at a pass level, including any 'single subjects of study', or successful completion of a tertiary preparatory program such as the Federation University Foundation Access Studies Program (FAST)
  • Successful completion of a relevant VET qualification at Certificate III level or higher
  • Applicants who have not completed secondary education, or undertaken any TAFE or university studies should include a personal statement detailing all relevant experience to strengthen their application.
