Downs Group Training

This qualification is part of the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. It provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. The units of competency cover essential OHS requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials. The qualification is built around a basic construction project unit that integrates the skills and embeds the facets of employability skills in context.

Structure:

11 units: 8 core; 3 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry; Plan and organise work; Conduct workplace communication; Read and interpret plans and specifications; Use construction tools and equipment; Work safely in the construction industry; Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry; Undertake a basic construction project. Electives: Undertake basic estimation and costing; Carry out measurements and calculations; Handle construction materials; Apply basic levelling procedures; Undertake a basic computer design project.

Study Pathways:

Skills achieved will assist in successfully undertaking a Certificate II pre-vocational program or job outcome qualification, or will facilitate entry into an Australian Apprenticeship.

Established in 1987, Downs Group Training is a Registered Training Organisation and a non-profit company servicing a large area of south-west Queensland from Gatton to the Western borders. They provide employment and training opportunities in apprenticeships, traineeships and school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Their service also extends to assisting school leavers in determining their career paths by providing presentations and career advice regarding apprenticeships and traineeships to regional high schools.
