This course aims to prepare students as they prepare for deployments in the humanitarian sector. Students will develop their existing knowledge and skills in how to manage the public and clinical health issues that arise in complex humanitarian environments, such as conflicts and natural disasters. Students will gain an understanding of the history of the humanitarian sector and the underlying humanitarian principles and values and complex ethical issues in practice; the humanitarian actors and changes in the humanitarian system. Students will explore the humanitarian programme cycle and how health program management applies to this cycle. Addressing specific public and clinical health issues for particular vulnerable groups in humanitarian crises will be explored

Standard entry requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in any discipline
  • Or at least two years of relevant work experience (or part-time equivalent)

Study pathways

The Graduate Certificate of Humanitarian Health will be an articulated pathway to the Diploma or Masters of Humanitarian Assistance and Master of Development and Humanitarian Action offered through the Faculty of Arts and Education and the Masters of Nursing Practice offered through the Faculty of Health (School of Nursing and Midwifery)
