The Graduate Diploma in Diabetes provides the student with foundation knowledge and skills in diabetes self-management, an understanding of chronic disease and its impact at a personal level as well as a national and global level. In addition graduates will have the capacity to prepare for projects and research in the diabetes field.

Standard entry requirements

  • Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree in a relevant clinical based health or allied health field
  • OR a bachelor degree in a related area
  • OR a registered nurse AND a minimum of 12 months postgraduate experience in a specialist area of practice. Enrolled nurses or Aboriginal Health Workers who do not hold a bachelor degree may gain entry to the course through an alternate mode of entry, which considers the applicants current clinical practice, education experience and professional development

Recognition

Graduates who are health professionals, (Registered Nurse - RN or Divison One, Registered Midwife, Accredited Practising Dietitian, Registered Medical Practioner, Registered Pharmacist, Podiatrist, Accredited Exercise Physiologist or a Registered Pysiotherapist) are eligible to use this award towards an application for credentialing with ADEA. No further professional recognition is obtained through completing this Diploma.

Study pathways

Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Consideration will be given to appropriate formal university programs or other forms of continuing education. Processes will be consistent with university guidelines and the guidelines provided by the external accrediting body (ADEA). Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences.
