The Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science (Psychology) double degree is a multidisciplinary qualification designed to enable graduates to gain entry into the legal and psychology professions. During legal studies students will learn about legal procedures and key legislation, develop skills necessary to identify, analyse and evaluate facts in relation to legal frameworks. The core areas of the law degree match those required for admission to the legal profession including statutory interpretation, criminal law and procedure, contracts, torts, constitutional law, equity, administrative law, property, company law, evidence, professional responsibility and civil procedure. During psychology studies students will develop a broad knowledge of the discipline of psychology and its applications, including major theoretical perspectives within the discipline. In addition, you will have knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the scientific discipline of psychology and the research methodologies and statistical techniques commonly used by researchers for information gathering and analysis.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; QTAC: English (4/SA); UAC: English (Standard, Band 2); VTAC: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in any English

Interim Award: Bachelor of Laws. Exit Award: Bachelor of Laws. Graduates with a GPA of 5.5 or above in your level 2 and level 3 Psychology units may be eligible for a place the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) course, which will prepare graduates for conditional registration as psychologists in Australia, as well as for coursework and/or research higher degree studies in psychology.

The Bachelor of Science (Psychology) requires students to have completed a bachelor degree for entry, hence students will need to complete the Bachelor of Laws first or rely on a bachelors degree they have already completed.

Recognition:

This course is an approved academic qualification for admission to the legal profession and is accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board of Queensland. Graduates are also required to undertake a further period of practical legal training before being admitted as a legal practitioner. Graduates may then be admitted in any Australian jurisdiction. APAC accreditation has been granted for recognition of the Bachelor of Science (Psychology) as a three year undergraduate degree in Psychology. Please note that completion of the Bachelor of Science (Psychology) does not meet the minimum requirement for provisional registration as a practicing Psychologist, for which a 4th year of accredited study is required. Graduates may also be eligible for Student membership or Affiliate membership of the Australian Psychological Society.
