Charles Darwin University (CDU)

This qualification is part of the Electrotechnology Training Package. It is aimed at those working in the instrumentation and control industry. Students will learn how to select, install, commission, fault find and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment in buildings and premises and instrumentation systems and core instrumentation equipment for process and control. This course meets the national Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC) requirements for an unrestricted Electrician's License.

Entry Requirements:

Learners must either be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate workplace environments to achieve the completion requirements of this course. There are no formal educational requirements for entry to this course, however a prospective learner's general education and competency level should be equivalent to the outcome of four to five years of secondary school.

Core: Fabricate, dismantle and assemble utilities industry components; Solve problems in DC circuits; Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications; Compile and produce an electrotechnology/utilities report; Document and apply measures to control OHS risks associated with electrotechnology work; Solve problems in single and three phase low voltage electrical apparatus and circuits; Terminate cables, cords and accessories for low voltage circuits; Troubleshoot and repair faults in low voltage electrical apparatus and circuits; Implement and monitor energy sector policies and procedures for environmental and sustainable work practices; plus more. Plus electives.

Charles Darwin University is the major tertiary education and vocational education and training institution in the Northern Territory.

Originally established as a tertiary institution in 1974, it became the Northern Territory University in 1989 and Charles Darwin University in 2003.

The main University campus is located at Casuarina in Darwin with campuses at Alice Springs, Katherine and Palmerston. VET courses are also offered at Jabiru, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek and Yulara Centres as well as at various remote community centres.

The University provides multi-sector education with Senior Secondary, VET, Higher Education and Research facilities.

CDU also deliver a number of courses through the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (ACIKE), which is a joint initiative between Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE). The three main sites for delivery will be at the main ACIKE Hub CDU Casuarina campus and at the BIITE campuses at Batchelor and the Alice Springs Desert Peoples' Centre.
